Broadband RF Pulses with Polynomial-Phase Response

چکیده
Introduction Broad-bandwidth radio-frequency (RF) pulses are important for various kinds of MR experiments. The achievable RF field strength B1 of the transmitting system is limited on whole-body scanners, leading to small bandwidths of regular amplitude-modulated RF pulses. In order to increase the bandwidth, pulses with inherently reduced maximum B1 amplitude (B1max) are necessary. Overlaying a quadratic phase in the frequency domain leads to frequencymodulated pulses, which are near optimal in terms of minimising B1max [1]. Some further reduction of B1max has been achieved by complementing a quadratic phase with a single higher-order phase term [2]. In this work, we generalise this concept towards combining multiple higher-order terms with a direct search algorithm, hence providing considerably improved bandwidth and selectivity.

Slice-selective broadband refocusing pulses with B1 immunity
Introduction: Broadband refocusing pulses are of great interest for reducing chemical shift displacements, anomalous J modulation, and increasing spectral selectivity. The design of refocusing pulses with broad bandwidth in the presence of limited RF power was accomplished with the Shinnar-Le Roux (SLR) transformation in combination with zero-flipping [1]. Schulte et al. optimized for maximum p...
متن کاملTailoring the optimal control cost function to a desired output: application to minimizing phase errors in short broadband excitation pulses.
The de facto standard cost function has been used heretofore to characterize the performance of pulses designed using optimal control theory. The freedom to choose new, creative quality factors designed for specific purposes is demonstrated. While the methodology has more general applicability, its utility is illustrated by comparison to a consistently chosen example--broadband excitation. The ...
متن کاملDesign of high-bandwidth adiabatic RF pulses using the Shinnar Le-Roux algorithm
Introduction: Adiabatic pulses are a special class of RF pulses that provide B1-insensitive rotation of the magnetization. When utilizing adiabatic pulses, particularly at high magnetic fields, low-SAR pulse designs are highly desirable. In this work, we present a new, systematic method for designing high-bandwidth, low-peak-amplitude adiabatic pulses by using the Shinnar Le-Roux (SLR) algorith...

K. J. Lee, M. N. Paley, P. D. Griffiths, J. M. Wild Academic Radiology, University of Sheffield, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom Introduction: Recently we introduced a new method for simultaneous multislice imaging [1,2]. The main idea is a novel rf pulse that gives each slice a different linear phase profile. Then, when one slice is rephased by the slice gradient, the others are dep...
